Album Review - 47Soul - Semitics
Today, I will be reviewing 47Soul - Semitics. The long awaited latest album by the Palestinian music group did not disappoint. Featuring bright names in the underground Arabic hip-hop scene such as Shadia Mansour , Lowkey , The Synaptik and Tamer Nafar as well as Fedzilla and Hasan Minawy , the 10-track album tackles oppression in the region in an upbeat bilingual and multi-genre approach. For the uninitiated, the genre that 47 Soul touts is called Shamstep , which comes from Sham, the arabic word for Syria but more inclusively the whole fertile crescent, as well as Step that signifies dubstep and electronic music. The album had 4 singles: Hold Your Ground, Border Ctrl, Run and Dabke System. At first, I was taken aback by the fact that there are so many singles but then realized that honestly, any song could have been a single. The band's explosion on the underground music scene has afforded them the respect they so deserve and the opportunity to work with named artists. The
