Album Review - Iann Dior - I'm Gone

Today, I will be reviewing Iann Dior's third album I'm Gone. The 21-year-old Puerto Rican born, Texas-raised rapper is on the come up and he dropped this album a week before its release date. It's only 21 minutes long and honestly I think it was 20 minutes too long, but let's get into the songs.

The album starts off with 'Paradise', a summertime hit that you would play in your convertible produced by the main producers on this album Andrew Luce and Omer Fedi. It then quickly moves into 'Pretty Girls', a song that interpolates Gives You Hell by The All-American Rejects as a first sign of his pop punk / rap sound that he is trying to go for. The song itself has a really catchy rhythm produced by Kinderr but it is really just a mindless 'lit' song about pretty girls having fun and offers no depth.

We then move on to 'Sickness' that begins with a cool guitar melody that serves as the foundation of the beat produced by Jason Scheff, Fedi and Luce. The song is your basic young rapper trying to numb the people around him being sick by resorting to drugs. Again, no depth. Same thing with the next song 'Shameless'. All it takes about is living the rock star life and being consistently inebriated and the song is only 1:46 long. It really is 'Shameless' how short and just blasé the whole effort is.

The next song 'Psycho' produced again by Fedi and Luce talks about how girls are driving him psycho, the only creativity on this song is really the beat and the outro; Dior does nothing to add to that. 'Sick and Tired' featuring Machine Gun Kelly and Travis Barker is one of the singles on this song and it shows. One of the only listenable songs with meaning. Dior talks about how he is a young punk and starts to see the need to be sober but doesn't actually do it. The song also emphasizes the pop-punk/rap sound he's going for.

'Runaway Kid' produced by Ian Thomas and Andrew Beckner reminds me of the sadness first exuded by XXXTentacion in his songs. Dior talks about why he left someone in specific or his life back as a 'Runaway Kid' and is probably not coming back, he deals with this by getting high but he does not mean to do it on purpose. 'Good Day' is the next song produced by Taz Taylor who has worked with XXXTentacion before. It was also produced by Gibbo and SIDEPCE who has worked extensively with Juice WRLD. So you can tell where Dior is heading by working with producers that worked with his mentors and idols and it shows in the song. Your typical sad boy rap song addled with drug consumption but at the end it's going to be a 'Good Day' because of the love he has for his homies.

Finally, the album ends with 'Prospect' produced by big producers in the game now Wheezy and KBeaZy and featuring one of the biggest rappers in the game right now in Lil Baby. This is the only song on the album that is longer than 2 minutes and it shows as being the other single on this album. The beat itself is perfectly created with heavy 808s and a chinese instrument melody. Dior offers his best verse on this whole album, leaving us wondering where that effort was in the previous 8 songs.

All in all, this album just seems like a project that has 3 singles with other filler songs. It feels put together last minute and just something that he made quickly just to say he dropped another album. I wasn't a big fan and was disappointed mainly because I could see the talent is there but the execution and the lethargy with the effort is also very blatant and just sad. I personally am not going to listen to it again, but if you want to check it out, please listen to the album below. Thanks for reading this review and as always, stay tuned for more awesome music!
